What are drain flies?

Drain flies are also called moth flies. A large number of hairs are present in the body structure and the wingspan of these insects. The flies have normally been spotted in the sewers, but one should not confuse them with the fruit fly, or sphaerocerid phorid flywheel that contaminates drains. Drain flies are nocturnal insects and are linked to wetland habitats. Their adults can be seen resting on the walls and ceilings of the affected areas. Another important thing to note is that they do not bite.

The Drain flies are in size tiny (usually 2-5 mm in length), light gray or tan in color flies with a small body and with leaf-like structure wing span. The main body and the wing span contain hair that gives them a fluffy look. The wingspan exceeds the size when compared to the rest of the body parts.
